The Author

Born in the UK, I often moved between two countries and their distinct cultures. I longed to be roaming the hills of Wales while in London or the Midlands, and to be jumping the Tube trains off on an adventure, while visiting relatives in the small village of Cefn-Coed-y-Cymmer where my father was born. Along with the advantages of transiting between British nations, came the outsider feeling it engendered, which ignited a strong desire to experience the United States.


Growing up in the 1970’s was a wonderful time. In a time before helicopter parenting, my mates and I, and sometimes my brother, were free to find our own fun in one of the largest cities of the world. I found plenty of opportunities to indulge my fascination with discovering how things work, fueled by such wonderful TV programs as Look Around You and Blue Peter.

Science fiction programming was at its heyday, and I never missed an episode of Doctor Who or Star Trek. At the same time, it was a period of economic and political upheaval in Britain. These diverse interests are reflected in my writing today.


When an opportunity to study at a university in the United States presented itself, I jumped at the chance. However, instead of roaming the Plains in search of buffalo, I found myself living and working on a small farm In Maryland, close to the Pennsylvania border, while I attended a school outside Baltimore. There I met my wife, and after graduation, I began doing my time in the “corporate grind.” After several years we decided to move our family back to my native homeland, where I managed to catapult my skills in GPS mapping into a career in IT.

Living in London was not as glamorous as many might think however, and tired of being jostled by crowds and mugged by landlords and utility companies, we decided to come back again to the US, this time with a determination to do more with life than just wither away in a cubicle. After several years back in Baltimore, we moved westward to Northern California. I began exploring a dream I’d had as a boy- to write my own science fiction stories –only this time the “monsters” are more real than fictional.

I have finished my first novel and am currently working on my second. I still spend my days in a cubicle, but writing is my escape, my way of exploring my many and varied interests. In a household of three daughters (and my wife), of keeping my sanity. As the incomparable Douglas Adams said (in “The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul”) “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.”
